So what is private cloud computing?
Adoption of cloud computing no longer driven by cost
First, it’s an operations model, not a technology. Fundamentally, cloud computing is a new way to provision, operate and deliver IT infrastructure.
The National Institute of Standards and Testing (NIST) defines the cloud model this way:
1. on-demand self-service;
2. broad network access;
3. resource pooling;
4. rapid elasticity; and
5. measured service.
Taken together, these characteristics constitute a new model of IT service delivery. But what do these characteristics really entail, and how can they take shape in company infrastructure?
